Andre Duthoit

Born in 1966, Andre graduated from the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music in 1988 with First Class Honours having studied under Christian Wojtowicz ( cello ) and Jan Sedivka  ( chamber music ) . The award of an Australia Council Grant enabled him to undertake study at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in the classes of Tobias Kuehne (cello ) and Rudolph Leopold (chamber music ) as well as lessons with Michel Strauss in Paris and Switzerland. In 2000 he graduated with a Masters of Music from the University of Queensland where he studied under Gwyn Roberts.

Andre has played with the Tasmanian and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Queensland Philharmonic. In 1990 he joined the Queensland Symphony Orchestra with whom he has appeared as soloist on a number of occasions as well as acting as principal and associate principal cello. Andre has been active as a teacher in Brisbane both at a secondary and tertiary level and has tutored for the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Tasmanian Residential String Summer Camp.

Andre has performed as soloist and chamber musician for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and has appeared as a guest performer with many Brisbane chamber ensembles.Since 1990 he has been involved with the Queensland Youth Orchestras as a tutor and audition panel member and has been a competition adjudicator for the Piatti and Sleath Prizes.  In 2012 and 2014 he performed in Switzerland as a member of the Adelaide Cello Trio. A recent career highlight was performing with bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer and violinist Brendan Joyce in the Queensland Music Festival. Since 2016 he has been a member of the Adina String Quartet.
